Challenge

For the new-build project Bruinpark (Canvas Living) in Rotterdam, we were faced with the challenge of delivering a complete and future-proof air handling system within a large-scale and complex residential development. The residential complex forms part of the redevelopment of Brainpark Rotterdam, where comfort, sustainability, and energy efficiency are key priorities. The variety of housing types and extensive communal facilities required a system that is both reliable and flexible, contributing to a healthy indoor climate for all users.

Objective

Our objective was to deliver a high-quality air handling system for both the communal facilities and the individual residential units. The focus was on creating a comfortable, healthy, and energy-efficient indoor climate, in line with the project’s sustainability ambitions. Additionally, we aimed to complete the project within the scheduled timeframe and with minimal disruption, working closely in collaboration with all involved parties.

Execution

Within this project, we delivered the complete air handling system for both the communal areas and the individual residential units. Our scope of work included, among other things:

  • Installation of main and distribution ducts: Mounting and suspending rectangular and round air ducts that run as main and distribution lines throughout the building, forming the basis for efficient air distribution.

  • Positioning and connection: Accurately positioning the ducts and making all components airtight in accordance with technical drawings, applicable standards, and project specifications.

  • System assembly: Contributing to the complete construction and integration of the air handling system, from main installations to end points, in conjunction with sustainable solutions such as thermal energy storage (WKO) and connection to the district heating network.

Result

With a team of three technicians, we successfully completed the full air handling system over a period of 27 weeks. The result is an efficient and sustainable climate system that contributes to the comfort of approximately 614 rental units as well as the various communal facilities, including the lobby, co-working spaces, fitness and creative rooms, and the sky lounge. The installations integrate seamlessly with sustainable solutions such as thermal energy storage (WKO) and the district heating network, supporting the high energy labels of the complex. In this way, we make an important contribution to a healthy, comfortable, and future-oriented living environment in the redeveloped Brainpark Rotterdam.
