For the new-build project Bruinpark (Canvas Living) in Rotterdam, we were faced with the challenge of delivering a complete and future-proof air handling system within a large-scale and complex residential development. The residential complex forms part of the redevelopment of Brainpark Rotterdam, where comfort, sustainability, and energy efficiency are key priorities. The variety of housing types and extensive communal facilities required a system that is both reliable and flexible, contributing to a healthy indoor climate for all users.

Our objective was to deliver a high-quality air handling system for both the communal facilities and the individual residential units. The focus was on creating a comfortable, healthy, and energy-efficient indoor climate, in line with the project’s sustainability ambitions. Additionally, we aimed to complete the project within the scheduled timeframe and with minimal disruption, working closely in collaboration with all involved parties.

In the construction of a building with multiple residences/spaces, a well-functioning air handling system is essential for a healthy and comfortable indoor climate. This requires a carefully installed duct infrastructure that ensures an even and efficient distribution of air throughout the building. The challenge lay in correctly installing and connecting both the main ducts and the branches, where precise positioning and airtight connections are crucial for the system’s performance.

The objective of the project was to create a complete and reliable duct infrastructure for the air handling system. This included installing the main ducts throughout the building and connecting branches to the individual residences and spaces, fully in accordance with the drawings and applicable quality and airtightness standards. The system needed to provide a solid foundation for efficient air distribution within the building.

Within this project, we worked on the complete duct infrastructure of the air handling system. The tasks included, among others:

A leading manufacturer in food processing faced the challenge of implementing an accurate and efficient weighing system for handling fries and potatoes destined for supermarkets. The system needed to ensure that every portion was weighed precisely, guaranteeing quality and consistency for the end customer. With the support of two of our technicians, and in close collaboration with the client based on a provided design, a Bodijn weighing system was installed and commissioned, fully tailored to the specific production lines and hygiene requirements of the food industry.

Commissioning of a precise and reliable weighing system, carefully installed to accurately weigh every portion of fries and potatoes for further processing and packaging. This system was designed not only to ensure product quality and minimize waste but also to enable efficient flow within the production line, ensuring smooth and consistent operational processes.

OBS Techniek was responsible for the assembly and installation of the weighing systems in this project and carried out the following tasks:

In the food industry, the demand for energy-efficient and sustainable production processes is steadily increasing. During the baking of cookies, large amounts of residual heat are released through the flue gas exhaust of industrial ovens. This heat was previously lost, while energy was simultaneously required for other production processes, such as melting chocolate. The challenge was to utilize this residual heat effectively, thereby reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.

The objective of the project was to implement an efficient and sustainable flue gas exhaust system for the ovens, allowing the released heat to be reused within the production process. Using a heat recovery unit, the residual heat was to be repurposed for melting chocolate, optimizing energy consumption and better integrating the overall process.

With the growing global demand for sustainably and efficiently produced food, there is an increasing need to produce more using less space. Vertical farming offers a solution by cultivating crops not horizontally, but vertically. OBS Techniek was involved in an innovative vertical farming project in Boston for Van Leeuwen Techniek, where lettuce had to be produced fully automatically in a three-story building.

The objective of the project was to implement a fully automated cultivation process for heads of lettuce, from seed to finished product. Using vertical growing racks, each growth stage was assigned a fixed position, allowing products to be moved efficiently and reliably between floors. The system needed to be space-saving, scalable, and suitable for continuous production.
